Muffin Tray Colour Sorting Activity

This activity is an easy way to practice recognising colours.

What you need:

• pom poms in different colours
• muffin tray
• paper cut into circles to fit into base of muffin trays
• coloured markers / felt pens

What to do:

Write the colour name with the same coloured pen on each circle – (red with red pen, blue with a blue pen…). You might want to add colour around it as well

Put colour name circles into muffin trayShow which colour is where and name them.

Put the coloured pom poms in with the right colours – to begin with you might want to put an example in each tray and as they get better at it, remove the example pom poms.

You can also use this for counting and number recognition by putting numbers (in order or random order as they get better) and putting that number of pom poms into each tray.

 

To add a fine motor component to this activity, use tongs or tweezers to place the pom poms.
